GOING GREEN: SOME OF OUR FAVORITE ECO-FRIENDLY COMPANIES & PRODUCTS

April 3, 2017 - Posted by: earthelements

To honor Earth Day, we have dedicated our first April blog post of 2017 to companies and products that celebrate being green 365 days a year.

BARK IS THE NEW WALL PAPER

Earth Elements is proud to carry Bark House, a unique alternative to traditional wall coverings made from recycled tree bark. Architectural Record Magazine's panel of judges has recognized Bark House Wall Coverings as a Record Product of the Year. Used for interior and exterior walls, their Poplar bark shingles are the first product to have ever received Platinum level certification from Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Program

HOW GREEN IS YOUR BUSINESS?

This is a question FSB has been asking for over 20 years. Their aim is to optimize all factors affecting the product life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials, through building, to demolition. Sun Valley Bronze uses the finest art grade bronze for consistent, high-quality castings (image left). Their sand casting technique transforms new ingots into architectural hardware, and keeps any remaining bronze to be recycled into subsequent castings.Click here for a video tour of the Sun Valley Bronze foundry.

DURABLE ECO-FRIENDLY FINISHES

Hammerton's focus on the environment seems to have no limits. Their impeccable lean manufacturing methods, company-wide recycling, and U.S. material sourcing & manufacturing all play a large part in their commitment to sustainability. One example of this is their high-performance, mulit-coat finish application process for powder coating. It minimizes waste, is VOC free, and contains no hazardous air pollutants.

CABINET CONSCIOUS

Bentwood purchases the raw material for all domestic hardwood products from FSC Certified providers. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the body responsible for developing guidelines for forest management that are applicable to all FSC Certified forests throughout the world. The US has the highest levels of standards in place of all world-wide forest lands. Purchasing domestically drastically reduces the emissions produced by shipping overseas.

THE NASHVILLE GREEN STORY

The team at Red Rock Tileworks considers the environment in the production of their tile. All tiles from their Nashville, TN studio are re-purposed if they do not meet the Red Rock high quality standard. If a tile doesn't come out of the mold just right, it is ground back into dust to start over. Scrap clay that is not to be used is collected for a local gardening company who uses it for landscaping. The perfect tile, with minimal waste. Red Rock Tileworks aims for this in every step of production.

WHY IS ENGINEERED BETTER?

The Loft Collection is an eco-friendly, engineered wood flooring product, perfect for any consumer. By utilizing an engineered construction, four times the amount of flooring is produced vs. solid flooring using the same amount of hardwood. With the majority of this product's structure made of Hevea, a fast growing and plentiful tree, hardwood materials that do not replenish rapidly are conserved. To top it off, it is finished with UV cured, no VOC, vegetable based natural oil.

CONSERVING RESOURCES

Since 1998, Laufen has continually monitored the use of resources in its internal and external processes. Important key environmental protection indicators clearly show that Laufen's production sites meet or fulfill mandatory environmental protections standards, and in most cases, exceed them. This com mitment to sustainability begins with the development of new product concepts and extends to their environmentally friendly production process.

INDUCTION COOKING TECHNOLOGY

Induction is a heat generating method that utilizes the principles of electromagnetism. How does this affect the environment? Because electromagnetic oscillations are usually instantaneous, heat is created rapidly, which saves time and energy. Other added benefits are precise temperature control and a heavy duty cook-top that is easy to clean. But we're just excited to have our water boil faster!

COUNTERTOPS FROM RECYCLABLES

ECO by Cosentino is a new product created from recycled materials. In fact, 75% of this counter-top comes from materials such as mirror, glass, porcelain, and earthenware. All the manufacturing processes comply with high environmental standards, which makes this unique product highly sustainable.
